Diesel Equipment Technician I (GSE Tech)
Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Diesel Technician I is the first level in a series of positions responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of the maintenance and repair of company equipment, and to including some needed repairs or upgrades throughout the facility. This is a position that has no supervisory responsibilities and reports to the GSE Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Diesel Technician is required to:
    1. Inspect and maintain ground support equipment used in operations.
    2. Troubleshoot, repair and/or overhaul ground support equipment.
    3. Check and service ground support equipment with fuel, water, oil and hydraulic fluid.
    4. Diagnose problems using test equipment and applicable manuals.
    5. Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements.
    6. Inspect machines, engines, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues.
    7. Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability.
    8. Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems.
    9. Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components.
    10. Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery.
    11. Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.
    12. Keep logs of work and report on issues
    13. Completion of GSE paperwork as required. Performs general building maintenance without supervision.
    14. Trouble shoots test individual components to determine necessary repairs.
    15. Repairs or replaces worn or defective parts.
    16. Provides emergency/unscheduled service to all equipment on site.
    17. Installs electrical wiring and controls and tests for proper operation.
    18. Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair.
    19. Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
    20. Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
    21. Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas; Maintains the work area free of trash or hazardous conditions
    22. Keeps inventory of spare parts & equipment.
    23. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Related technical or trade school education.
  • Must have own tools to complete all tasks on site.
  • Knowledge of diversified industrial mechanical duties.
  • Read, write and fluently speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to work with limited to no supervision.
  • Ability to work comfortably at heights over 90’

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Aircraft maintenance hangar experience.
  • Diesel Mechanical experience.
  • Electrical Diagnostic experience with 12,24,36 and 48 Volt systems.
  • Boom lift, Scissor lift, Forklift and Hoisting operation.

  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints and technical reference manuals.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Should be highly motivated with the ability to work well with others.
  • Able to follow directions and ask for clarification or assistance when needed.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings, overtime and on-call as assigned.
  • Must be able to adhere to all established safety policies, processes and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in indoor and outdoor settings. The indoor settings include office, restroom, kitchen and warehouse environments which require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as cleaning supplies and hand tools. The outdoor settings include parking lots and driveways. Occasionally subject to varying inside and/or outside temperatures, which may include extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees). The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee may be occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to climb ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc. Bending downward and forward at the waist. Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles. Resting on knee or knees. Bending downward and forward at the leg and spine. Extending hand (s) and arm (s) in any direction. Standing extended time periods. Walking for long distances. Using upper body to press against something with steady force. Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects. Use of upper body and back muscles to lift objects.

Medium work; exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

TRAVEL: Travel is not expected for this position.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be able to legally work in the US without sponsorship.
