Job Summary

The role is responsible for managing NAV CANADA’s portfolio of insurance policies on a cost-effective basis and providing advice and support to the company on insurance and risk management upon request. The role also requires the development of strong working relationships and alignment with all other departments within NAV CANADA, as well as the Company’s insurance brokers, insurance underwriters and other external entities.

In this role you will:

  • Manages the portfolio of insurance policies in a responsible and cost-effective manner, including the preparation of detailed underwriting submissions as required.
  • Assists Senior Legal Counsel and the VP & Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary on aviation insurance matters.
  • Provides appropriate advice with respect to insurance and risk mitigation to internal clients, including, but not limited to, Supply Chain, Fleet, Infrastructure Delivery, Real Estate, and other departments within NAV CANADA who seek advice.
  • Reviews and negotiates insurance clauses in contracts, in conjunction with Supply Chain and Legal, to mitigate NAV CANADA’s exposure to risk.
  • Manages non-aviation insurance claims by conducting appropriate investigations, interpreting applicable policy wordings to determine coverage, preparing submissions, negotiating with adjusters, and settling claims.
  • Assists the Senior Legal Counsel and/or VP & Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary on aviation claims.
  • Manages the certificate of insurance databases.
  • Represents NAV CANADA when property insurance underwriters inspect insured property and provides access to loss control services through property insurers. Prepares and manages the annual budget for Insurance and Risk Management.
  • Undertakes activities, including annual meetings and surveys, which ensure that clients can provide their comments, criticism, and advice on how best to serve them.
  • Liaises (the principle daily point of contact) with the Company’s insurance brokers.
  • Promotes and encourages good risk management practices through the provision of courses as requested, presentations to other departments within the Company and, when invited, other efforts designed to support this purpose.
  • Participates in Committees within NAV CANADA as requested.
  • Works with insurance brokers to procure additional insurance as required for specific projects and undertakings.
  • Identifies and leads on a long-term insurance-related projects.
  • Provides functional guidance to the Legal Assistant as needed.

What you bring:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g. insurance/risk management, business, business administration, accounting, etc.), or significant experience in the insurance/risk management industry in lieu of formal education.
  • Certification from recognized professional organizations: i.e.  Certificate in Risk Management (CRM) and/or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), or similar designation are strongly preferred.
  • Minimum five years experience in insurance/risk management.
  • Experience in the aviation industry would be an asset but not required.
  • Demonstrate a superior knowledge of the various insurance products purchased by NAV CANADA 
  • Sound knowledge in Microsoft Office Product Software
  • Broad knowledge of the various policy forms and provisions of insurance policies available in the marketplace that may be applicable to NAV CANADA
  • Understanding of Canadian Aviation Industry

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be performed in an office environment. 
  • The requirement to meet deadlines and for precision in writing may lead to some mental stress from time to time.
  • Some travel for meetings, conferences, inspections, and presentations is required.
  • This position is a hybrid position with a minimum – 3 days per week on site.
