Job Title: Quality Assurance Technician
Job Description
The Quality Assurance Technician supports high-quality production of aerospace-related hardware by performing detailed visual and mechanical inspections of electronic assemblies and components. This on-site role focuses on 100 visual inspection under a microscope, interpretation of schematics and circuit diagrams, and documentation of non-conformances and material flow. The position requires strong attention to detail, solid communication skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with production and quality teams in a fast-growing manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed visual inspection of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and components using a microscope for 7–8 hours per day, following mechanical drawings and IPC specifications.
- Conduct 100 visual inspection without automated testing, ensuring that all components are correctly populated or intentionally omitted according to circuit diagrams and schematics.
- Perform incoming material inspection on mechanical components and, when needed, on PCBAs to verify conformance with quality standards and specifications.
- Use mechanical measurement tools such as gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other quality instruments to identify potential supplier, design, or manufacturing issues.
- Document material flow through MRB (non-conformance) and IQC (incoming quality control), ensuring accurate records of defects, dispositions, and inspection outcomes.
- Identify and document defects clearly and thoroughly, and communicate issues promptly to production and quality teams to support timely corrective actions.
- Create and maintain clear, detailed rework instructions to guide production line assembly operators in correcting identified issues.
- Study, understand, and teach product quality standards to production line assembly operators to promote consistent, high-quality workmanship.
- Maintain dashboard presentations and other tracking tools to provide visibility into quality metrics, inspection results, and material status.
- Support cosmetic inspection of parts and assemblies to ensure they meet visual and aesthetic quality requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicating effectively inside and outside of the direct team to resolve quality concerns and improve processes.
- Leverage computer skills, including spreadsheets and presentation tools, to record data, prepare reports, and share quality information with stakeholders.
Essential Skills
- Experience performing detailed visual inspection using a microscope for extended periods (7–8 hours per day).
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and circuit diagrams to determine which components should be populated or missing on a PCB.
- Strong component identification skills and understanding of basic electronic components such as resistors and capacitors.
- Hands-on experience with IPC-A-610 inspection standards; IPC-A-610 certification preferred (valid or expired).
- Proficiency in PCB inspection and quality control processes in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to perform measurements using quality tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and similar instruments.
- Computer proficiency, including the ability to work with spreadsheets and presentation tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when identifying, documenting, and communicating defects.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with production, quality, and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to teach or explain product quality standards to others in a clear and structured way.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with IPC specifications in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Background in cosmetic inspection of mechanical or electronic components.
- Experience using quality measurement tools such as gauges, calipers, scales, and optical measurement machines (OMM).
- Familiarity with consumer electronic manufacturing processes and production line operations.
- Experience documenting material flow through MRB (non-conformance) and IQC (incoming quality control) processes.
- Ability to create and maintain rework instructions and quality dashboards.
- Knowledge of spreadsheet tools for data tracking and analysis.
- Knowledge of presentation tools, including slide-based software, for maintaining and presenting quality dashboards.
- Quality-focused mindset with a strong sense of ownership and a drive to champion continuous improvement.
