We are seeking a self-starting, motivated Principal Quality Engineer/ Sr. Principal Quality Engineer to join our dedicated Southern California field engineering team. The team designs, develops, tests, delivers, and operates advanced prototypes and unique marine systems.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The candidate will have the opportunity to provide Quality Engineering and Mission Assurance support to a variety of unique equipment designed for marine applications. The candidate works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions, which may involve a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines and knowledge. They will coordinate and collaborate with internal quality teams and customer quality teams in problem solving, risk mitigation, and root cause corrective action. They will have the ability to influence up front design and plan work for a variety of disciplines including heavy lift equipment, oxygen clean environments, and coatings application. They will also perform quality inspections, both on customer equipment and on supplier products.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Provide Mission Assurance interface with the customer, technical authority, suppliers, and internal quality departments and act as the primary POC for all NG Field Site Quality
- Solve and troubleshoot unique production and maintenance issues with solutions that span a broad range of engineering disciplines
- Responsible for life support systems processes/procedures and clean room operations and compliance
- Perform root cause analysis and work with engineers, maintenance teams, and/ or suppliers to implement effective corrective action and process improvements
- Review early engineering designs for manufacturing and quality concerns and provide input on solutions
- Conduct technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements to products in accordance with specific customer specifications
- Perform Procurement Quality Engineering tasks to support the Supply Chain Management process including quality requirements flow down on purchase orders and source inspection of completed hardware.
- Write and review documentation for technical procedures, work package instructions, and engineering specifications
- Follow local customer and NG Quality and Mission Assurance procedures and guide the team in decision making based on information from both sources
- Qualify with the customer on local procedures and assist with bringing NG employees up to speed on those qualifications
- Provide customer driven quality training for the NG field site employees
- Use inspection tools to assist with maintenance and customer required inspections

Basic Qualifications for Principal Quality Engineer:
- BS Degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a Master’s Degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- 3+ years experience working with electrical or mechanical design requirements, specifications, and engineering drawings.
- 3+ years experience with MS Office suite tools
- Active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment.
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Quality Engineer:
- BS Degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 9 years of related experience or a Master’s Degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 7 years of related experience.
- 7+ years experience working with electrical or mechanical design requirements, specifications, and engineering drawings.
- 7+ years experience with MS Office suite tools
- Active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with clean room requirements and life support systems
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electronics, metallic fabrication and machining, and mechanical mechanisms
- Familiarity with Navy quality procedures and work packages, Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual, and marine systems
- Coatings Inspector certified, AMPP or equivalent
- Strong technical writing skills
- Desire to deploy with customer on a rotational basis
- Experience with Purchase Order source inspection
- Experience with performing NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) including PT and VT.
- Root Cause Corrective Action experience with complex problems
- Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility
Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00Salary Range 2: $124,900.00 - $187,300.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
