The primary purpose of the Methods Engineer (Special Processes) is to:
- Be accountable for developing and revising work instructions, and manufacturing documentation to process/route parts through various operations within the plant including plating, cleaning, painting & heat treatment
- Research and propose engineering changes
- Supporting Production, Quality, Procurement, and other internal groups to solve relevant technical problems
- Participate in internal and external audit activities
Key Responsibilities
Work instruction creation, revision, and maintenance
- Create/revise and review work instructions to ensure conformance to process specifications and Nadcap requirements
First Line of Technical Support for Manufacturing
- Provide on site support for shop floor operators
- Troubleshoot technical manufacturing problems
- Participate in investigations into technical issues, including assisting in Root Cause Analysis
- Consult with Liaison Engineering to initiate resolutions to build or design technical issues reported through the NCM Process
- Liaise with QC, Quality Engineering, and Supply Chain to develop resolutions and implement changes to technical or quality problems
Engineering Change Process
- Research and propose engineering changes
- Record and submit Engineering Change requests for changes to build, design and tools
- Record and submit Engineering Change requests to initiate Make vs. Buy decisions
- Assist Planning in execution of NCM Tasks (i.e... Work order instructions)
- Execute ECN related tasks to incorporate Type Design and Build changes
- Represent and report on Methods Engineering functions
Build Cost Reductions and Improvements
- Assist Area Managers in developing plans to increase efficiency including acquisition and implementation of new equipment
- Engage in company initiatives/projects to increase production rate and reduce costs
Training
- Assist training of Production, QC, Methods Engineering and co-op personnel
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer)
- 5+ years of progressive hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace industry
- Knowledge of special processes, including chemical conversion coating, anodize processes, passivation, primers, topcoats & heat treatment
- Experience and previous involvement with Nadcap certification/recertification requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of cost accounting and cost estimating
- Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques
- Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues
- Ability to communicate and document information using a computer and required software (Microsoft Excel skills are an asset)
- Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time
- Ability to work effectively either independently or with others on flexible work assignments
- Experience/training in root cause analysis an asset
