SUMMARY
The position incumbent is responsible for the strategic planning and organizing of the plant engineering function as well as the motivation and control of the employees therein. Incumbent must make optimum use of corporate assets for capital improvements. Problem solving skills and ability to communicate and sell ideas is important. Internal and external contacts are both frequent and critical.
The primary function is to provide cost effective facilities which have the capability and capacity to produce quality products and use utilities efficiently. Install equipment and machinery that comply with safety and environmental standards. Maintain a plant layout that results in optimum utilization of equipment and space.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide services to New Hartford plant operations including layout, engineering, planning, alterations, and new construction when required, utilizing contracted engineering services when required.
2. Assist the Director of Engineering to manage the plant equipment engineering function to assist in providing capacity analysis, justification of need, determination of alternatives, selection of most cost-effective solution, procurement, installation and startup of all new and or altered equipment and facilities.
3. Initiate training and professional development programs for all NH plant engineering personnel that will result in using the most cost-effective methods to provide a trained cadre of personnel for promotion.
4. Assist the Director of Engineering in preparing operating budgets for the department. Help to manage and control the department activities to stay within the budget and review departmental costs regularly for area reduction.
5. Develop and drive long range capital improvement plans based on input from other functional areas to ensure SMC’s ability to meet customer product needs at a reasonable cost.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or similar Engineering discipline is required. At least 8 years of professional engineering experience in industrial manufacturing required along with at least 3 years supervisory experience leading technical employees.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Build and maintain positive relationships internally and external, excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
